This story will take a cup or two of strong coffee - but it explains the heavy handedness of the government and big banks when it comes to

"SECRET Loans "
Greedy banks that were not even in trouble found they could borrow money at 1.1% where, when the standard was 3.8%, jumping at the chance to screw American tax payers - many of these banks were foreign too. The Federal Reserve, a privatly held corporation, made $1.2 Trillion in secret loans to banks whether they were in trouble or not and whether they were foreign owned or not. This was on top of the $700 Billion Dollar TARP Act to bail themout! These people in these banks - the ones running these banks (to be more specific), have no scruples what so ever. After you read this article, you'll wonder if there was anything that could have been done. All these boomers have paid into SS all their lives based on a promise, and they've also opened IRA and 401K accounts but none of this means diddly squat to politicians because if they want, they'll just declare it a national crisis and take that away too. For decades they sat and watched SS Trust Fund grow and grow and grow and it killed them that they couldn't tap into it. And then they found a way - and gave it away to people who it wasn't meant for, to garner votes. It's easy to play big spender with someone elses money. This article shows me it's exactly what they would do, particularily this president and Congress.
Ever wonder why banks seem to be so willing to 'punish' their customers and take your money for simple, unintended mistakes made by millions daily? They act like they own us. That's right. According to them, we can not enjoy life without them. We'll wait forever (save for ever) and never have all that we "deserve". Thier advertising promotes these ideas in all forms - without a good credit rating, you are a goner, a loser - a no body. To clinch this view and force you to engage it - they work with other companies and state legislatures to enact laws that reinforce this notion that they determine your worth - not you. From insurance companies to landlords to prospective employers - they can and do all run credit checks as a means of screening out people determined unworthy - by the banks! My identity was stolen and used to obtain 16 high-limit credit cards in 2007. My signature was forged many times over and it was a female doing it - and still the banks persisted in calling and hounding me - still do to this day. They are determined to wear me down until I give in, like a tooth ache, and pay them all that was stolen from them by someones else (and they know who it is even).
Your sense of self-worth is NOT determined in the board room of a bank. For those of you who know this, you also know that your way is made harder in some respects, but only to the extent that you need to wait and save back for what you need! Debt is bondage. It is slavery in it's most evil form. Debt requires you to pledge that nothing else matters to you more than getting the bank it's money. It means predicting the weather, the economy, your childrens health and even market conditions. Things none of us would gaurantee even with close relatives because we can't. But why are we willing to do so for a banker? The answer is at the heart of their advertising and business model. Everyone wants and needs affirmation and acceptance from their peers. Banks SELL it!! Banks say to you, here, drive this $67,000.00 Chevy HD 4x4 4Dr past your neighbors and park it in YOUR yard. People so dislike their own lives that they willingly line up for credit to 'have' it all, now. This why Dave Ramsey tells us to "be weird!" Don't follow the crowd over a cliff. "Be like no one else so you can live like no one else!"
For over twenty years now, I have reached out to those willing to roll up their sleeves and learn by doing - and share the traditional skills that empowered our forefathers to come to this country and settle in it, with only their tools and skills. In the first years I understood that many couples both worked to pay for their increasing needs and wants and all to often, getting the two mixed up. If they could work hard at a defined plan to build their own log home or cabin in the woods - without debt- how freeing would that be to raise a family? To pursue work you liked to do and have a passion for instead of something that pays the bills but you have to drag yourself to each day. I have heard many of my students say they just couldn't figure out how to get off that treadmill for the fear instilled in their minds by the lenders that they could lose everything if they miss a payment.The same lenders that said you had great credit and deserve it have it all, now. When I die, I will not care if the bank was happy with me. I wish every teenage boy and girl in this country could be taught how their freedom is more valuable than any projected sense of worth pushed on them by the banks. That they were shwon how to protect their freedom and how it will ensure they live a happy, fullfilling life. The Amish don't borrow money. The economy doesn't affect their lives like it does the rest of us. No, I'm not advocating we all become Amish, certainly. But what we can learn by how they live and prosper.
Building a log cabin from raw, natural materials big enough to live in and have it paid for IS what I am advocating. This is not for everyone. Hard work over an extended period of time is not appealing to a lot of people. I can see this clearly whenever the economy is up or down. No matter the motivation - that's why I am here. I welcome everyone with a strong interest in taking charge of their own lives and reluctant to wait for the government
to help them. The government has never created a program it did not eventually render people dependant on. You dare not own anything or have any measure of wealth or assets - they want you poor, broke and dependant on timely amounts of assistance. If you drove only vehicles you could pay for and had a home with no rent or mortgage - how differant would your life be? The number one reason for divorce is connected with money or income.
One of the tradgedies of all of this is that many people believe that to build a log cabin from scratch is so incredibly hard and labor intensive. Well,
you are going to spend a good deal of time at it. But it was being done with far less sofisticated tools several hundred years ago and many buildings remain in use built in the 8th and 9th centuries - so, it's a great way to build. Stone and logs - both natural resources - one is a renewable resource which means you're building "green" and have many opportunities to participate on various levels in forest conservation programs to see that more trees are planted than you used. Hands-on log building workshops teach you how to build correctly, safely and well, saving you both time and money.
In every class, discussion is initiated and carried on through out the class - on building debt free and how the creation of a 2 to 5 year plan can fit in with your life today and result in true freedom to work at what you want and like. I will show you how the use of the traditional approach of 'pre-assembly'of your entire log shell before you even have land or talk to a banker. There is no need for a building permit in a pre-assembly - so you're free to build as you see fit and know how best to do it. Because we employ a "train the trainor" approach, you will be able to explain what you are doing and need done with prospective help or to a lender for the smaller amount to obtain land, have a well and septic system installed.
You are going to know what to do and we have several ways in which we strive to make sure of it. One is that all graduates can return tuition-free to reinforce what they learned. We also have a very successful "Host Program" that only graduates of at least our two week hands-on workshops can elect to help get a big start on their log home project. We also have a "Class Projects Purchasing Program" where graduates can have a custom built handcrafted log home built at the school by students at a discount in subsequent classes at a substantial savings, shipped and reassembled onto your waiting foundation to finish and close in yourself. Lastly, we have House Logs purchasing where any DIY log builder can order their house logs selected and harvested by a skilled log smith, and, in addition, have the silllogs, platelogs, truss rafters, log joists and purlins all have their flat cust on before being shipped at no extra cost. Houselogs are at or below market pine prices so recieving logs ready to peel and start building with is appealing to those without local sources of building logs. All graduates will know the log builders vocabulary and are encouraged to stay in contact via phone and email as they build as long as needed.
To be sure that you know of all the opportunities available to learn how to become self-reliant, we are constantly looking for more ways to make our training available and better. We are teaming up with WWW.DriftlessFolkSchool.org located in Viroqua, WI, a town about 18 miles South of us here in the Sparta, WI area. The FolkSchool has several weekend classes on country/cabin living skills from Pickling & Canning, Blacksmithing, Building an Earth Oven, Butchering Hogs, Butchering Deer, Butchering Sheep to Home Cheese Making and much much more. All students are encouraged to visit their web site and learn many of these traditional skills not taught in schools today. Two week students will be here at least one weekend and others for more - so please take advantage of all the learning opportunities you can!
Any student registering for a Log Building Workshop that has a registration confirmation for a Saturday/Sunday class with the Driftless Folk School will be reimbursed for the cost of the tuition fee for that class. Once for two week, two for four week and, as the DFS schedule provides for our 12 week students. How cool is that?
