Resumes can be Recieved anytime but the sooner the better.
Indiana state law prevents us from running an apprenticeship program without going through and meeting a host of requirements - and that's all good. With your resume sent in to us and your attendance we're able to get the apprentices started as soon as we find we are good to go as far as the government is concerned.

Career minded individuals pursuing participation in this Apprenticeship Program will be able to find out if this is indeed what they so choose to do by participating in the 4 week workshop first.
We may seem to be holding the gate quite firmly in this process but 24 months is a long committment and this is not for people afraid of some hard work and long hours. Except for the Class Projects Purchasing Program, everything we do is qualified by first having them attend as students and for many of the same reasons. Graduates make the best Hosts because they have made a committment and an investment in themselves, of their time and already incurred conciderable expense in tools and participation. We believe too that after 19 years of teaching, this too is the best way to recruit apprentices.
You get an indepth introduction to the craft, aquire your hands-on skills and with power tools, get a chance to meet and work with the instructors and we, together, are are able to decide if this is for you. The completion of this program is focused on your attaining a level of proficiency where you can work alone with a helper unsupervised in the craft of log building. Builders are seeking such individuals and with our reputation of teaching a level of mastery we will work to achieve placement of 100% of our apprentices. A firm decision and strong committment, therefore, best serves both of us.
Those seeking to establish their own custom building business will also be fully qualified to do so. Lets face it, its August 17th, 2008 and there are 75 logs in the school yard to be (are presently) peeled 16 inch in diameter and 50 feet long. Much of the peeling is hired out, as we're custom a builder too, but not all of it. Without a good taste of it, you won't know if this is for you, and so it goes for the tenuous and detail oriented skills training you will go through.
We're very much aware this is not for everyone. Like they say in the Marines - "we're looking for a few good men", who want to be the best! Irregardless of these requirements, if you are interested and determined - send in your resume and tell us why you are going to get into the craft of log building. We'll read all of them and answer all of them using our descretion on the merits in selecting a few good men.
All the best,
Bill Lasko
Apprentices will assist in day to day operations of the School of Log Building
Daily Operations include everything from moving logs with the crane for students to assisting in teaching Log Building Workshops and office duties. Apprentices will be required to help handle returning phone calls and emails to future students and keeping track of workshop participants tool & registration requirements. Meeting visitors and taking messages, maintenance, greeting new student arrivals, assisting with one day seminars on weekends, etc etc .....
Student graduates are eligible to Host a four week workshop and Apprentices will each travel to teach a workshop on the road alone as Bill has done for nearly 15 years now as a means of affirming your confidence and skill set. This will be in the second year and after having been trained and assisted with possibly several Log Building Workshops both on the road and at the permanent school site.
Compensation for this is as follows, a host is required to make a 1/3rd deposit of the Host Fee ($9,500.00) upon signing the Host Agreement with the balance due* upon arrival of the instructor, and if the Host has requested that the instructor remain after the workshop to help complete the log shell, a fee of $2500.00 per week is charged per five day week with 25% of that included with the Host Agreement Deposit. Payment for successful workshop taught will be 1/2 have the balance of *Host Fee Paid and the remaining 75% of the charge per five day week in this example this would come to $6916.66. excluding travel and accomodations and meals.
